鈥淭he pandemic has taught me the importance of appreciating what you have when you have it,鈥� says Susan鈥疢acInnis.鈥�鈥淚 have become more driven and focused on learning, creating change, and looking at different points of view.鈥�鈥� Witnessing firsthand the financial struggles of friends and in her own family has also inspired her to major in finance or economics.鈥��
In addition to her鈥痸olunteer position as a鈥疺olunTEEN鈥疞ead at the Cape鈥疊reton Regional Hospital, Susan鈥痺as a鈥痶ech鈥痶eacher鈥痜or seniors鈥痑t the Cape Breton鈥疪egional Library鈥痑nd鈥痑鈥痸olunteer鈥痽outh鈥痯rogram鈥痗oordinator at the YMCA. She also founded鈥痑nd鈥痳an鈥痟er鈥痵chool鈥檚 debate club鈥痑nd led the鈥疓reen Team to advocate for the environment.鈥��
When鈥疭usan found out she鈥痟ad received a Sobey National鈥疘nnovators鈥疭cholarship, she鈥痺as鈥�鈥渁bsolutely choked up and speechless鈥︹�疘 had the most difficult time controlling myself from jumping up and down and screaming鈥痬y happiness into the phone.鈥� Susan鈥痯articipated in the Enactus鈥疭aint Mary鈥檚鈥疭ummer Challenge鈥痑nd has already鈥痵ecured鈥痑 position working with鈥痶he鈥疭quare Roots鈥痜ood security program. She plans鈥痶o join the Commerce Society, the Debate Society,鈥痑nd鈥痬aybe even鈥痶he Case鈥疌ompetition Society.鈥�
