Dr. Jason Rhinelander

Dr. Jason Rhinelander is an Associate Professor in the Division of Engineering at Saint Mary’s University, specializing in Artificial Intelligence with a focus on machine learning and optimization for embedded, real-time system development. His expertise spans kernel machine algorithms, computer vision, signal processing, and security applications. He applies these technologies to various fields, including underwater SONAR imagery, offshore mooring inspection systems, supply chain demand prediction, residential energy efficiency forecasting, Large Language Models (LLMs) for business decision support, and advanced AI for animation.

Dedicated to industry collaboration, Dr. Rhinelander actively engages with SMEs to connect research with practical applications. His partnerships have supported innovation in sectors such as retail, ocean technology, and business intelligence. Since joining Saint Mary’s in 2013, he has taught courses in programming, modeling and optimization, computer vision, electrical circuit analysis, and probability and statistics. His education and outreach initiatives include mentoring students, organizing robotics competitions, supporting Ladies Learning Code, and serving as a selection committee member and selection chair for the Discovery Centre Awards.
Beyond his academic and research commitments, Dr. Rhinelander contributes to the scholarly community as an associate editor for the International Journal of Robotics and Automation.
